Celebrate Jewish music at a special choral workshop in Richmond for Holocaust Memorial Day

Next month Richmond borough is inviting singers to join internationally renowned choir director Polina Sepherd. This one-off workshop at Landmark Arts Centre is being held to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (Mon 27 Jan) and 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Taking place on Sunday 2 February, participants will learn a wide range of material, from sacred to secular and traditional to modern, in both Hebrew and Yiddish (no knowledge of the languages necessary). Later that evening the group will perform what they've learnt to a live audience, accompanied by Shepherd and her husband Merlin on clarinet.

"Music is an integral part of Jewish culture," commented Whitton Ward councillor Jo Humphreys, "and played an important role during the Holocaust. This workshop aims to honour Jewish music and culture, whilst paying tribute to those who lost their lives. The day will bring together people from inside and outside the Jewish faith. It's a rare opportunity and I hope that many people sign up to take part."

If you'd like to attend but don’t wish to take part, tickets are available to book.
