To celebrate the new Fashion City exhibition at the Museum of London Docklands, we’ve joined forces for an afternoon of words and music. Explore all that Jewish fashion has to offer, from family hand-me-downs to magic suits and stitches in time. We’ll be treated to readings by prize-winning poets:
Jill Abram, creator of the Stablemates reading event series and former director of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen, an influential collective that encouraged craft, community and development. Her pamphlet, Forgetting My Father, is out now;
Rachael Clyne, whose latest collection, You'll Never Be Anyone Else, was published this year by Seren Books. It covers themes around identity and otherness, including Jewish heritage and sexual orientation;
Jaqueline Saphra, also a playwright, editor and teacher, whose 5th collection, Velvel’s Violin, was released this summer.
Plus live music from internationally renowned soprano Sarit Aloni, artistic director of Salisbury’s Larkhill Choral Society and conductor/director of the Wimbledon Synagogue Choir. For more Fashion City action, we’ll be co-hosting a meet-the-curator Zoom with Insiders/Outsiders on Tuesday 7 November.
