Holocaust Memorial Day: Digging for Truth

Professor Caroline Sturdy Colls (University of Huddersfield) draws on her work in archaeology to explore how communities recover from conflict, mass violence and genocide. She discusses how archaeologists uncover new insights into the fate of missing persons, the landscapes of genocide and the surprising clues left behind and how diverse communities engage with and confront their painful histories. Followed by a Q&A and separate Holocaust Memorial Day event (see below for details).

Holocaust Memorial Day 2025

Remember the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust and the victims of subsequent genocides across the world. There will be talks and performances from guests including Jen Kagan (Holocaust Centre North’s Chair of Trustees), Professor Caroline Sturdy Colls (University of Huddersfield) and Cantor Rachel Weston (Sinai Synagogue, Leeds), and the chance to view the centre’s permanent exhibition, Through Our Eyes, which documents the stories of 16 survivors and refugees who now live in northern England.
